Design Systems
Docs spec
Section titled “Docs spec”The Design System Doc Spec (DSDS) is a specification for documenting a design system: which parts its documentation has, what a page about a token, a theme or a component says, and where each fact comes from. It points to other standards for the facts themselves: DTCG for tokens and themes, WCAG and the ARIA Authoring Practices for accessibility, Semantic Versioning for releases.
This site’s docs spec is a summary of DSDS and those standards, written for the systems in this repository. Every system’s docs follow it, and where the summary and a standard disagree, the standard wins.
Design systems
Section titled “Design systems”A design system is the shared set of decisions a product is built from. Its tokens hold the values (colours, type, spacing, motion) as data; its styles and components put them to use; its guidelines say when to use what. A site installs it as a package instead of restating those decisions in its own code.
Each system here has its own section: what it is for and how to install it, its foundations with values read from its token files, and its components with live examples.
